Mangatangi Historical Group

Recollections

The Mangatangi Historical group have curated a collection of written histories about local people, events and places.

Formed in 2012 the group’s aim was to preserve the history and heritage of the area of North East Waikato, east of Pokeno, including the communities of Mangatangi, Mangatawhiri, Maramarua and Miranda.

Acknowledgement and thanks to Waikato District Council, our local schools, Waikato District Council Heritage Forum, The Franklin Heritage Forum, Ngati Tamaoho and Auckland Libraries for permitting the use of some of their photographs. The Mangatangi Historical Group committee members were Ian Barton, Dawson Banks, Kathleen Banks, Audrey Cummings, Laurie Cummings, Tom Diamond, John Holder, Helen Holder, Barbara Jeffs, Jane Jeffs, Berry Patterson, Jim Patterson, Dianne Pompey, Murlene Ramanui, Murray Reid, Sh’aan Reid, Bryce Shuker, Carolyn Shuker, Don Shuker, Nellie Weedon and Nelson Weedon.
